So Excited!
Date: Jan 5, 2010
Entry: Thanks for the congratulations for being able to be part of the Torch Run though Armstrong! I am so excited for the big day and I have run through the days events a million times in my head. I have recently moved to Fort St John for a new job and not being around Armstrong for while sure makes you realize what an amazing community it is. I feel so blessed not only to be a torch bearer but to be able to make the trip home to run in Armstrong of all places (I actually even get goose bumps when I think about it). I'm so glad I get to share it all with you guys! Thanks to everyone who makes Armstrong home and I'll see you all in 21 days!

proud parent
Date: Jan 4, 2010
Entry: Our daughter has been chosen to carry the Torch. She has always enjoyed many activities in the community and is happy to share them with her nieces and nephew. She has introduced them to many new challenges and they look forward to the next adventure with their aunt. We will all be there to watch her proudly step up and take her turn to carry the Torch. Like so many others she sets an example by leading, and who knows maybe next time her nieces or nephew may have the chance to carry the Torch in the future. The excitement is building, we will be there to cheer her on!

Family fun time in Armstrong

Entry: New Years Day was special this year as all my family was together. We played outside by building a snow fort on our front lawn and having a friendly snow ball fight. We went sleigh riding down the hill at Armstrong Elementary School. What great fun that day was. This will be a holiday that my little grandson will never forget.

Congrats PVSS Dance Team!
Date: Jan 4, 2010
Entry: The Adrenaline Dance Team has just returned from Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary for their Evolution Dance Competition. We placed first in the Open Division reclaiming our title that we had held for 5 years up until last year when we were pushed down to 2nd place. It was a real feeling of accomplishment in recapturing that 1st place title for our school. We were up against 6 other teams in the open division and placed first by only .5 of a point! In the hip hop division we were up against 11 teams and we surprised even ourselves by finishing 3rd! The first place team was Holy Cross the title holders of the hip hop division for numerous years. The judges loved our very eccentric "Demented Clown" dance for all the quirkiness of the movements and the amazing facial expressions from all the dancers. Congratulations to all our dancers!

How we support the spirit of the games!
Date: Jan 4, 2010
Entry: One of the most popular sporting events in Armstrong is also one of the major contributors to recreational facilities andopportunities in our community. Armstrong Funtastic host about 40 ball team every year and is run by a group of volunteers who put in countless hours maintaining fields, putting together schedules, finding sponsors, and just generally ensuring participants have a great time. For 20 years, Armstrong Funtastic has been a part of the July long weekend events, and has also contributed a great deal of funds towards many project - the new arena, a chair lift at the pool - and is now working with Parks and Recreation and the Interior Provincial Exhibition to improve the bathroom and shower facilities on the grounds so that they may be used safely and by more people. The spirit shown by the members of the Funtastic committee is mirrored by that of the 2010 Olympic Games volunteers - and we are proud of their efforts. Two hard working members are shown in the photo - Realtor Sharon Dahl and VantageOne Financial Manager Fran Stecyk - thanks for your efforts.

How does our Chamber of Commerce support the games?
Date: Jan 4, 2010
Entry: Our Chamber of Commerce believes that we help our community grown by 'participating locally' and we are prepared to put this into action for the 2010 Torch Run. Our Chamber of Commerce has offered to host one of the 'color' sites along the torch run route. We will distribute hot chocolate, encourage crowd participation and hand out memorabilia. Once the run has passed by, we will head down to the fairgrounds to assist with the activities such as the mini-Olympic events and just help wherever needed. We are excited to 'Share the Excitement' and encourage our community to show their 2010 Games spirit!

We're a Torch Run Community!
Date: Jan 4, 2010
Entry: January 26 will be an exciting day in Armstrong as we celebrate the 2010 Torch Run. The day will begin with the community gathering along the route, which will be marked in designated sections. Each section will represent one color from the Olympic rings, and everyone who gathers in each spot will be encouraged to dress in the appropriate color. Everyone lining the route will recieve a color-coded scarf as a memento of the event. Each area will have a host group - and at this time, our host groups range from the City, Township, Chamber of Commerce, Churches, Service Clubs and Schools. Each color area will have a refreshment area and entertainment, as well as cheerleaders to get the crowd going. Following the run, the community will be invited to gather at the fairgrounds for a community dance, mini-Olympics, activities, free hot meals, entertainment, a bonfire, and closing ceremonies. Lots of planning has gone into this event - and an emphasis has been on being an inclusive event - no cost with special invitations to our children, youth, special need, and aboriginal community members. We are so excited about this opportunity to 'Share the Excitement' and show our spirit! This could be the start of the great new winter event for our community for years to come!

Ceremonies!!
Date: Jan 4, 2010
Entry: Not only do I get to carry the Olympic Torch, I am also in the Opening and Closing Ceremonies! I am an audience leader (but I do not know what I am doing, but even if I did I cannot tell you!). I auditioned last spring and found out this fall I had made it! I am very excited! I have gone down to Vancouver a couple times already, and I will be there more and more as the Ceremonies come closer. I am soo excited, it is incredible. I figure skate, but I realized some time ago that I did not have what it takes to get to the Olympics as a figure skater. Now this is my chance to be part of the Olympics, instead of just watching it on TV. I find that it is incredible that I am going to part of such a big thing; a part of history really. So tune in, and look for me and the other two girls from Armstrong that are in the Ceremonies!!

Armstrong Torch Day
Date: Jan 4, 2010
Entry: So plans are underway for a great celebration when the torch comes through Armstrong. I do not know all that is happening, but it is going to be fun! Since I carry the torch (although in Salmon Arm) the organizing crew have asked me to come be part of the celebration. Of course I am going to be there anyways, but they plan to have me sign autographs! That will be fun, although weird as well- I am surprised that people want might want my autograph! Well, see you there as we show just why we are a Gamestown!
