Armstrong - simply the best!
Date: Dec 1, 2009
Entry: There's something special going on here almost every weekend, all year long. Armstrong is situated in the Spallumcheen valley between the sunny, rolling Okanagan Valley and the cooler, forested Shuswap Valley. The name Spallumcheen is derived from the First Nations word meaning "beautiful valley", for obvious reasons. One of the finest agricultural areas in British Columbia, predominantly cloaked in rich green alfalfa and golden grains, with diverse farms nestled among pine-clad hillsides. Wildlife and Ecological Reserves along the Hiking and Horseback Riding Trails draw outdoor enthusiasts from near and far. Armstrong is notable for many renovated Heritage homes and businesses. The friendly city retains a charming image and historic feeling in the downtown area. The Museum and Historic O'Keefe Ranch are home to extensive, precious historic archives - a quiet stroll through the sights and memories of our past is a must. There are numerous other exciting attractions worth checking out - Chickadee Ridge is the largest miniature horse farm in Canada. A ride on the Little Railway is an unbelievable experience. Rogers Flour Mill, Village Cheese Company and the Okanagan Great Divide are just a few stops to mark on your itinerary. The area around Armstrong features many attractions as well as world class golf courses, water sports in the summer and snow sports in the winter. We are just a few miles from Silver Star Mountain Ski Resort and Hunters Range snowmobile trails. Boating, great fishing, hiking trails are all close at hand. Centrally located - approximately 500 km from Calgary, Vancouver, Spokane and Seattle. Come visit us!

City taking plan review to community.
Date: Nov 30, 2009
Entry: The City of Armstrong is looking to put the community into its upcoming official community plan review.
Council has decided rather than make the community come see the review plans, it will bring the OCP to the community.
“We’re looking at striking a committee made up of community members,” said Mayor Chris Pieper. “This committee will have input into the review and they will develop a more all-round OCP for us.”
The idea is to attract seniors, juniors and students to be part of the committee.
“We want it to be more of a community OCP review rather than a ‘stand-up-and-listen-to-council,’” said Pieper.
People will be selected for this committee or they can submit their names if they have an interest in sitting on the committee.
Along those lines, the city is encouraging youth representation on the committee, and will approach Pleasant Valley Secondary’s leadership program about taking part.
“When we went to UBCM, we went to a couple of workshops where youth had been involved in the OCP to bring more of a community attachment to it,” said Pieper, referring to the communities of Golden and Clearwater.
Armstrong’s OCP review is slated for 2010.

Canadian Soldiers Train at Fairgrounds for Winter Olympics
Date: Nov 30, 2009
Entry: It's was a sight never seen before at the community fairgrounds - a row of dark green military vehicles parked in front of the show barn and camouflaged soldiers patrolling the area. It was all part of a final exercise for Task Force Vancouver - part of the Canadian Forces support for the Vancouver 2010 Olympics. This excercise capped off two weeks of winter training excercises for about 600 soldiers. Mountain patrolling is one of the areas Canadian Forces personnel will be responsible for - part of their domestic operations. The 600 soldiers involved in the winter training excercise will be joined by almost 4000 other Canadian soldiers providing security support at the games. The soldiers have returned home, most to Quebec, to rejoin their families for a brief holiday before returning to BC for the games.

Armstrong's just the best place!!
Date: Nov 28, 2009
Entry: Our family has lived here for 4 years and we have never witnessed such generosity by the citizens of Armstrong. It is certainly the most community spirited place we have ever lived. We enjoy volunteering and are surprised at the support of so many other happy citizens. Always so many community functions to enjoy such as the Halloween party sponsored by the local fire department, Christmas light up parade with so many businesses participating and offering hot chocolate, cookies, donuts etc., IPE which is so supported by all the citizens helping in one way or another. It is a perfect location in the North Okanagan and the gateway to the Shuswap with close proximity to skiing, fishing, watersports and many other outdoor activities.

Why we chose to live in Armstrong
Date: Nov 27, 2009
Entry: This Is Judi Adams. I was talking to someone a week ago and we were discussing the area and why we chose to live in Armstrong. This is how we chose Armstrong 11 years ago and why we still stay here.
Armstrong is small - but felt big. City staff take care of the city - garbage is picked up, streets are clean, community is well-kept. Residents are very welcoming - arms open to anyone and any class. To me it was like getting a great big hug from Grandma.
I thought you might like to know this so new families who are thinking to move to the area know why we choose to live here.
