Culing is one of the many wonderful programs
Date: Nov 25, 2009
Entry: Armstrong is a community with many recreational options for its youth. When I was growing up in Armstrong my recreation of choice was curling. The Armstrong Curling Club had, and still has, a great Junior program run by volunteers. The senior members of the club also help in teaching elementary students how to curl through the school system. Even though the club manager didn't need to be there, the curling club was kind enough to open its doors day after day after day so my team could practice. After I graduated I moved to Edmonton and then Victoria for education but I couldn't stay away from this wonderful community and returned with my wife a year ago. I'm now teaching at the middle school and have started a curling club in hopes that some students will have the same positive experience that I had when I was younger. Once again the Armstrong Curling Club has stepped up with huge discounts on our ice time. They have once again put the development of youth sport ahead of profit and made this league possible for the students of Len Wood. Thank-you Armstrong Curling Club!

Parents support Youth Soccer, a non profit, local volunteer program benefiting 500 children
Date: Nov 23, 2009
Entry: Armstrong & District Youth Soccer offers affordable, local, competitive yet fun soccer close to home, this is a non profit organization run by volunteers...the parents in our fantastic community. Last year we had close to 500 children benefit from this program, 38 volunteer coaches and others who were involved in organinzing a photo day, year end tournament and the list goes on... Over the past few years, the program has purchased quality equipment to maximize the fun and skills of our children. This is a tremendous accomplishment for the program and our community! We, the executive, can share with confidence that those who have volunteered in the past, walk away with a strong sense of pride because of the number of children’s lives they have enriched thru this program. We look forward to successful, rewarding, 2010 program. Congratulations to all the parents for your support and dedication!

Figure skating, Skiing and Dog walking
Date: Nov 23, 2009
Entry: Let me begin by saying "I love Armstrong". We moved here 5 years ago from Kelowna and it was the best thing we ever did. Armstrong has a thriving volunteer community and arts community, as well as heritage and rural influences. Truly my idea of heaven!
Our family keeps active in the winter by walking our new doggie twice a day. My husband and I have a gym in our garage, and our girls both figure skate. I take the girls skiing, as well. In the summer, the girls take swimming lessons and play soccer. We tend to participate with the Armstrong Enderby Figure Skating Club and Armstrong Soccer- they are very well run programs and their members are to be commended.
Its easy to stay active in such a beautiful outdoor playground! Go Armstrong!

Armstrong Figure Skating Club
Date: Nov 22, 2009
Entry: I have lived in this great community for over 7 years now and am very involved in the Figure skating club. I am amazed at the quality of skating and coaching that is demonstrated in this club. Just this past weekend, the club sent seven skaters to compete at the Sunshine Valley Open in Grand Forks, BC and every skater won a medal! This past January, the club hosted the 2009 Okanagan Regional Championships in our beautiful arena. It was a pleasure to show off our wonderful facility and the volunteers who stepped up to the plate made the event one of the best Regional Championships in the past several years. There were five skaters who qualified to compete at Provincial Championsips. It is great to live in a community that has excellent recreational programs for children of all ages.

Great People
Date: Nov 20, 2009
Entry: I am very involved with our son's elementary school and the volunteering spirit exhibited there is representative of the spirit of the entire community. Moms and dads offering time for a variety of projects including playground building, field trips which require hauling bikes or skis or other equipment, library restocking. Many of these same parents are scout/girl guide leaders, involved with skating/hockey, soccer coaches. Then the businesses of our small community offer goods and services for many fundraising projects these teams and organizations have going. They say it takes a community to raise a child and this community is doing just that.

An Amazing Place to Live!
Date: Nov 11, 2009
Entry: We have lived in Armstrong for about ten years and this community just keeps getting better and better!!
The community spirit is remarkable. The way people come together to support all that happens here is really like nothing I've ever encountered.
When I think about what makes this community special for us and our children, I think of so many things like...
The Interior Provincial Exhibitiion - a first rate show of our agriculture roots and just a plain good time!
The Farmer's Market - an amazing assortment of local growers with the best produce the Okanagan can offer!
Asparagus Theatre & Caravan Farm Theatre - unique and wonderfully entertaining year after year!
Spirit Square and the Steam Train - there's nothing like going down to the farmer's market on a sunny Saturday morning and taking a stroll through quaint downtown to watch the steam train roll in. The kids LOVE it!
the New pool! - obviously it's not built yet but we are SO looking forward to the new facility and we're so glad that our community is forward thinking to put infrastructure in to keep us playing in our community.
Our local library - has been a great place for my kids and I. Storytime is a BIG hit and the care and thought that is put into making resources available to my family is so appreciated!
The local newspapers - we are fortunate to have two local papers - the Okanagan Advertiser and Your Country News. Both have been such fun ways to stay in touch with what is happening in our community.
I could go on and on and on....but I don't want EVERYONE to move here!!
Go Armstrong!!
