Blue Bike Project
Date: Jan 3, 2010
Entry: The Armstrong Boys and Girls Club has a program called 'Keystone' that is a leadership group. We are planning to start a project called 'Blue Bike'. The leadership group will collect bicycles from different places and refit the bikes so they are in working condition. The bikes will be painted blue so they are easily identifiable. The bikes will then be placed throughout the community where people can use them freely to travel throughout the community. Bikes will be placed in high traffic areas such as the commercial area, schools and the suburbs. The only condition for using the bikes is that they are left at community bike racks in good condition. This will help us cut down on car traffic and encourage transportation that is better for the environment - and better for us!

It take a community...
Date: Jan 2, 2010
Entry: to make visitors feel at home and important. On a visit to Canada this summer, a family from Germany travelled from Banff to Vancouver. Trying to take in as much Canadian history as possible, they stopped to see where the last spike of the CNR was driven. Leaving that historic site, they headed to Armstrong. Once there, they realized they had left their camera behind at their last stop. They were devastated as all the pictures from the 6 week trip were on the camera - and the trip was their daughter's first to Canada. They left contact information on the off chance the camera was found. After many calls by the staff at the Armstrong Visitor Centre to the historic site, RCMP and other Visitor Centres, the camera was found - exactly where they had left it. One of the Visitor Center staff offered to pick up the camera on her day off, and brought it back to the Visitor Centre, where it was mailed back to Germany. A few weeks later, a letter was recieved from Germany expressing their thanks and appreciation. The card remarked that 'through their efforts, the Visitor Centre staff enforced the positive image German visitors have of Canadians and their high standards of friendliness, empathy and helpfulness.' If this doesn't embody the feeling the Olympic Games, we are not sure what does:) Way to go Visitor Centre staff - we award you a gold medal for service and friendliness!
