A Breath of Fresh Air
Date: Jan 7, 2010
Entry: Every day I find myself caught off guard by a glimpse of Mount Ida, flash of sunlight from the Salmon Arm bay, a cheery hello on the street corner. And there's rarely a day when I don't say to myself with gratitude: "I live here!" Christmas day we were out on the lake paddling. Couple days earlier we were climbing on skins to the summit of Larch Hills high above the town. Few days later the snowshoes were floating us into the hills.
It's as if the whole town has gone on walk about. . .or ride about. . .or ski or snowshoe about - we're greenway and trail crazy. Hundreds of volunteers, our leadership, stewardship and recreational groups - everyone's coming together and transforming our community. Raising funds. Heading out on work parties. Everyone's taking to the trails. Snowshoeing, mountain biking, old school and new flow, epic cross country - take your pick, nordic skiing, equestrian, get out and move or stand still in silence and wonder. . .our beautiful home. We're blessed! We're on the flight path of a steady display of nature's winged spectacle. We can mountain bike the 40 kms to Sicamous now on the new Larch Hills Traverse. It's part of the grand Shuswap Trail vision. Check it out: www.shuswaptrails.com Remarkable! Everyday I smile with gratitude that Salmon Arm is the place I call home.

Salmon Arm - GamesTown 2010 - Go Canada!!!!
Date: Jan 7, 2010
Entry: Where does one start! I was born and raised in Salmon Arm and consider myself a very lucky person to live in such a beautiful place. Salmon Arm is a family oriented, proud and bonded community. With many volunteers we are able to support all age groups from wee toddlers to wee seniors in many activities both indoors and outdoors. The Olympic Torch is going right through Salmon Arm and will even be stopping briefly at my child's school and the children are very excited about this. It would be really awesome and quite an honor for Salmon Arm to be awarded GamesTown 2010. Funds of any kind would certainly help assist with the increasing demands for more venues and equipment within our community.

Hiking, Paddling, Swimming,
Date: Jan 7, 2010
Entry: I have been a Master's Swimmer for 20 years and Salmon Arm is responsible. I swim twice a week with Shuswap Swimming Masters at the Community Pool. We have the best coaches who challenge me but understand adult needs. I've had great times at the BC Winter Games, competed at World Master's Swimming Championships and just returned from the World Master's Games in Sydney, Australia. See what fun it can be.
I walk with my partner and our dog. In the spring and summer, I count the wildflowers on Mt.Ida our local landmark. It has a variety of trails for hiking, snowshoeing, skiing, and mountain biking. It is just a matter of choosing the season.
I don't paddle whitewater any more, but kayaking on the lake is a great form of relaxation.
Salmon Arm has everything. What more could I ask?

Hike, Paddle, Ride, Ski, Swim
Date: Jan 7, 2010
Entry: Salmon Arm has to be the greatest place to live.
Every day I wake up to choose my activity. It always starts with a walk up the mountain with my dog. She doesn't mind if we snowshoe or ski. She has a blast and so do I. We might even get out twice. The air is always fresh and the view changes with the weather and the season, or time of day. Everyday is a new picture.
We are close to everything. I can swim at our local pool, just 5 minutes away. The beach is only a ten minute drive or half an hour by bicycle.
I can have a flat paddle on the lake or chose the Shuswap or Adams Rivers for some white water.
The choices, the weather, the environment and the people make Salmon Arm the best place to live.

Outdoor life and local community support
Date: Jan 7, 2010
Entry: I believe that playing a sport at any age, and skill level is to live with the dreams of children, and the ghosts of heros past. In that vain, a group of senior hockey players have been building on those dreams for many years in Salmon Arm. The group is growing each year, and each individual player owes a great debt to those have worked so hard to develop, and organize this group.
This group has players from many different backgrounds. Some have played for many years, some have played at a high level, and some have come back to the game after many years away from the rink, and some have come to the game with little or no background. Some are in the early 50's, and others are in their late 70's.
All are welcomed, and all get to play.
It is a wonderful thing that these people have created, and helps create part of the wonderful community that exists in Salmon Arm.

my mecca
Date: Jan 7, 2010
Entry: During my career I've lived in four provinces and seven area code zones in Canada with Salmon Arm as my 'final' stop. The amazing mix and diversity of people, culture, sport and recreation in a majestic setting makes this my favorite place in the world to live and recreate.
Years of big city living makes me appreciate even more the special magic of smaller town living. I am enriched and blessed by the opportunity to 'mainstreet'...or visit....when I shop downtown or go to an event at the local theatre or community centres. I revel in the camaraderie and competition of old-timer hockey at the Sunwave Centre. Summer finds me at Salmon Arm Golf Club and other excellent local golf courses. The Shuswap Lakes are the final jewel for summer recreation. I love the four seasons.
It just doesn't get any better than this!

A Jewel of a Place to Live
Date: Jan 7, 2010
Entry: My husband and I moved to Salmon Arm from the lower mainland 22 years ago with our 2 young daughters and never looked back. It felt like home from the day we arrived. (Both of our families loved visiting here so much, that they eventually all ended up moving here too).
We were amazed at the unexpected level of talent and performances displayed in so many areas (music, art, drama, cuisine & sports) and at the dedication of all the volunteers and coaches – so willing to share their time and skills with others – particularly children. Fields, schools, and activity centres are constantly in use.
The people of Salmon Arm are also incredibly generous. This year, the town raised a total of $18,000 for the annual turkey drive alone – no small feat from a total population of 17,000 people! It also has a great community spirit and a diverse balance of people. It is a town that has something for everyone - it is truly a jewel of a place to live!
