Easy Fun
Date: Jan 4, 2010
Entry: I love that in our neighborhood a pick up game of hockey on the school ice rink can happen on a cool New Years day with neighbors and friends and that in summer a different group will all gather togethor to have a fun game of soccer. The neighbors are the type that keep an eye on your place if you are away and drop off baking if there is an illness in the family. Your daughters teacher is also your next door neighbor and your son's best friend from Grade 2 lives across town but they still hang out togethor. A student you work with is a kid you coach hockey to on the week-ends. This is a community that works and lives togethor like family.

Enjoying our great outdoors
Date: Jan 4, 2010
Entry: Today I was at Felker Lake - a 20 minute drive from the city. We played a "game" of hockey on the ice (our goalie used a shovel for a stick), then went for a snow shoe across the lake. The afternoon was spent playing cards and reenergizing for the next adventure. Which was.....an evening ski around the lake using head lamps - and with the full moon it was grogeous. This is country living - every day CAN be an adventure right in your back yard.

Winter Lights Celebrations Program Keeps Spirits Bright
Date: Nov 20, 2009
Entry: This is the 7th season our committee has been "Keeping Spirits Bright" in our community. We work with a huge number of various organizations and groups in organizing events and activities during the winter months. It amazes us the support and participation we get from our citizens, young and not so young, in making Williams Lake a unique, fun and active community to enjoy in the winter. They do not need any encouragement to participate in our indoor or outdoor activities. We invite everyone from far and wide to visit our community and experience some truly unique cultural "Cariboo Hospitality.

Williams Lake Pedal By the Puddle June 14th - http://pedalbythepuddle.shawwebspace.ca/
Date: Jul 10, 2009
Entry: The 2009 Pedal by the Puddle is now history, and what a day it was! Ideal weather (maybe a little hot!), a great course, and 100 registered riders (nearly double from last year!) made for a perfect day. Participants ranged from 10 to 62 years of age, and people came from McKenzie, Burns Lake, Prince George, Quesnel, Clearwater, Kamloops, Sun Peaks, Armstrong, Vernon, Vancouver Island and…Australia! The course was co-operatively shared by first time racers, veteran elite riders, and weekend warriors who enjoyed the course anywhere from 1 to 9 times for a grand total of 335 laps ridden. The Mt. Timothy Ski Patrol were on site and on the course for First Aid and we’re pleased to report the only first aid they administered was on people’s bikes.

Community Partners Cafe June 19th 2009
Date: Jul 10, 2009
Entry: Imagine Our Future Williams Lake is the name given to the 18 months that the people of Williams Lake will spend engaged in rethinking the future of this town. The Williams Lake community has a unique opportunity right now to set a course for creating economic resilience, social inclusiveness and building a healthy local environment. This town can emerge from this process as a role model for other places in BC.
64 participants came together at round tables setup around the ‘cafe’ with five seats per table in a rough circle around the room with a coffee station in the middle. Along the wall, 9 different stations representing the 9 priority areas were set up. At each Priority Area, participants discussed and then recorded their thoughts, guided by the following: “In 2030, Williams Lake is...”, “Our Strengths are...”, and “Ideas for Actions and Initiatives”. Energy was very high and participation was extraordinary. For more information visit www.imagineourfuture.ca

Performance in the Park June 18th - Imagine Our Future
Date: Jul 10, 2009
Entry: Performances in the park was launched early this year with a Performance by My Wife’s Quartet and Drum and Bell Tower, Performance in the Park drew hundreds of people out into the potentially stormy evening. Many of these folks won prizes for participating in the Imagine Our Future process by having their passports stamped after visiting all 9 Priority Areas and giving input to the hosts and signboards at each one. The venue seemed to entice people into having fun while also playing a role in defining the directions Williams Lake needs to go in each of the areas defined for priority action. To check out more details on the project visit www.imagineourfuture.ca And don't forget Perormance in the Park runs every thursday night from 6:30 -8:30 in Boitanio Park in July and August

Entry: We recently moved here from the lower mainland for my husband's job and to afford a larger house for our family. My husband and I came here with our 3 children not knowing anyone. It is such a warm, welcoming, community that makes you feel at home right away. We have been fortunate to enjoy such great places as Dugan Lake and Scout Island. We also use the recreation center (cariboo complex) a lot of the time as well. It is such an active community with many opportunities and career possibilities too! Thanks for making us feel at home, WL :)
