Pollination 2008 - Cariboo Arts and Culture

Entry: Pollination is a communtiy retreat weekend that takes place every year. This event brings together local musicians, DJ's, yoga teachers, healers, crafters, dance teachers, and many more talented people for a weekend of great food catered by the gecko tree. There are workshops, dance, music and a celebration of community and the coming of spring. The group of friends that put this event on are called the Cariboo Dreamcatcher Collective and they have a web page you can check out at www.cariboodreamcatchercollective.org . This event has happened for three years and the group will start planning for next years event in the fall of 2009. Picture of pollination 2009 can be seen on the web page.

Rock Climbing at Eslers

Entry: I have always been scared of heights and not really an active recreationalist and then i moved to Williams Lake. The opportunities here are endless from mountain biking, back country skiing, sledding, dirt biking, paddling, bird watching, hiking, rock climbing, wow and so much more. A little hidden mecca. In exploring the recreational opportunities, I went rock climbing with some friends to a wonderful natural wall called Esler's Bluff. This wall has climbs for all level of skills and is just a wonderful place to even just go hike around on a nice sunny day. The road in is a little rough but fun.

Energy Fiar

Entry: In Novemebr the TRU sustianability club and the Central Cariboo Sustainability Committee organized an energy fair at the local university. The event was great. Many local businesses participated. Local conservation groups and the TRU had a wonderful open house all at the same time. This event raised some momentum in the community around sustainability and was a catalyst for the up and coming Sustainability Fair being opganized in Williams Lake for June 13, 2009 at many venues around the town.

Senior Sampler

Entry: The City of Williams Lake received funds to provide seniors free physical activities. Trail walking, Tai Chi and Fall Prevention classes were part of the eight different activities that seniors sampled for free.

Nutrition Run

Entry: The Nutrition Run is a great way to celebrate spring. The run started in March 1990 with 60 participants. This spring was a record year with 380 people walking, biking or running the 5 kilometre distance. Information on healthy eating is provided by the Interior Health’s Dietitian and healthy snacks were served after the activity.
